The Russian side initiated a meeting of the UN Security Council on Minsk agreements, which is scheduled for February 18. It is worth noting that Ukraine had previously announced its meeting at the UN General Assembly that will take place on February 20. Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs commented on this situation. This was reported by the Ministry’s press service.
"An expected, traditional and proven trick of Russian diplomacy aimed at diverting the attention of the world community, shifting emphasis, forming parallel political realities. But Ukrainian diplomacy is ready for such a scenario. Representatives of Ukraine will take part in both events," the statement reads.
As we reported earlier, First Deputy Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN Dmitry Polyansky stated that Russia was initiating a UNSC meeting on Ukraine in order to discuss the Minsk agreements.
"Due to the with the fifth anniversary of the Complex of Measures on Implementation of Minsk Agreements, which is celebrated today, on February 12, and following the fifth anniversary of the adoption of UNSCR resolution 2202 (February 17), Russia has scheduled a Security Council briefing,” Polyansky said.
