A banner in support of Vitaliy Markiv, the serviceman of Ukraine's National Guard appeared on the main building of Ukraine's Interior Ministry. Arsen Avakov, Ukraine's Interior Ministry posted that on his Twitter page.
"Yesterday, he stood for Ukraine. Today, he needs us to stand for him. The enemy and his methods are the same: lies and dirt, which is why resistance has to be the same: the unity of people and the demand: #FreeMarkiv", Avakov wrote.
An Italian court sentenced Vitaliy Markiv to 24 years in prison. The serviceman of Ukraine's National Guard was found guilty of killing an Italian reporter who died during the mortar attack in Donbas in 2014; Markiv's unit was stationed not far from there, within the reach of the mortar strike. Ukraine insists he is innocent.
