Ukraine's ministry of culture stands for the creation of regional authorities for Roma affairs in the areas with considerable Roma communities residing there. Andriy Yurash, the Director for Department for Religions and Nationalities said that at a roundtable meeting in Kyiv.
According to Interfax news agency, the official specified that the small divisions are supposed to 'handle the matters systematically' within the respective regional state administrations.
Yurash marked that the approximate number of the Roma in Ukraine makes from 47,000 to 400,000 people - by various estimates. The Ministry's representative added that there are several areas, in which the stakeholders, officials and experts should be working - such as living, education, social protection, healthcare, culture and information policy.
Earlier, the building of a kindergarten in a Roma settlement was burnt down in the village of Velyka Dobron of Zakarpattia region, westernmost Ukraine.
According to the information of the rescuers, no one was injured as a result of the fire.
The portal notes that the local Roma said that they do not rule out deliberate arson taking into account recent events.
In turn, the police found no traces that would indicate intentional arson, but that was nevertheless possible.
