Ukraine's Government creates Coordinating Council for Road Traffic Safety

 The Cabinet of Ministers created a Coordinating Council for Road Traffic Safety during the meeting on February 28. Volodymyr Groysman, the Prime Minister of Ukraine, said it, Kabmin UA reports.

“We will work on creating an effective Strategy of road-traffic safety organization in Ukraine quickly,” he said.

Volodymyr Groysman is the Head of the Council.

The Council is a temporary organization aimed at road-traffic safety reforming.

Its main tasks are:

-to provide coordination of work of central executive authorities regarding problem-solving connected with reforming of road-traffic safety system;

-to formulate proposals for formation and implementation of the state policy in road-traffic safety sector, on roads and railway crossings in particular;

-to determine ways and means to solve problems, which occur during the implementation of the state policy in road-traffic safety system;

-to raise effectiveness of functioning of central and local executive authorities in road-traffic safety sector;

To create a system of constant monitoring of legislative acts on road-traffic safety to define and repeal norms, which foster corruption.

As we reported earlier, the Cabinet of Ministers made several decisions to decrease the number of traffic accidents and people suffered. The duration of the driver’s license obtained for the first time was reduced to two years. The Cabinet of Ministers supported the introduction of criminal liability for violations of the traffic code by drunk drivers if there are victims; they launched a system of automatic photographic and video evidence of road traffic violation. Besides, the speed limit in inhabited locality is 50 km/hour since January 1, 2018.
