“The denunciation of the treaty on the Azov Sea with Russia is out of question as it will allow Russia to proclaim the territorial dispute. For us it is the security issue, so we use the available tools to settle this issue,” Zerkal noted.
Earlier, Sergiy Hayduk, the former commander of the Naval forces and the vice-admiral, suggested setting a mine barrier in the Sea of Azov to secure Ukraine against Russia’s possible attack.
Petro Poroshenko, the President of Ukraine, during one of his speeches said that he did not exclude the fact that Russia is preparing an attack at Mariupol. Besides, as of July 15, Russian had detained 148 vessels in the Sea of Azov for inspection.
Due to this, Poroshenko entrusted the Defence Minister, the Head of the General Staff and Ukraine’s Navy command to take relevant measures to stop the Russian provocations concerning the blockage of the vessels entering to the Ukrainian ports in the Sea of Azov.
