Foreign Minister of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba decided to support Ukrainian Ambassador in Germany Andriy Melnyk, who was recently affronted by Gerhard Schroeder, the ex-Chancellor of Germany. Kuleba expressed his stance in the interview for Bild, commenting on the official's behavior.
"It's a sign of weakness when you get to use such language instead of arguments. Of course, I support my ambassador. He stood bold and true about the role of Mr. Schroeder in the Russian Federation", Kuleba said.
The Foreign Minister also referred to Schroeder's decently paid work as a lobbyist of Russian energy interests.
"Mr. Schroeder has a right to walk his path. But I definitely cannot agree", said the chief of the Ukrainian diplomacy.
Previously, Former German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder got involved in a scandal with Ukraine's Ambassador in Germany Andriy Melnyk. The story occurred, as Schroeder spoke during the first edition of Agenda, his new audio podcast on May 26. Deutsche Welle quoted the politician as saying.
"One should not nibble each other with sanctions. I tried to point out it was fair against Russia, too. Why then the ambassador or the former Foreign Minister from Ukraine criticizes me?" Schroeder said, talking to his former press secretary Bela Anda.
"Yes, the ambassador", Anda replied.
At that, Schroeder did not call the ambassador by the name, instead, he called him a "midget."
Melnyk responded to Schroeder's insult. "The name of Mr. Schröder will always be noted in the world history as the synonym to the cynical lobbyist for Kremlin in Germany who covers Putin’s aggressive policy and shamelessly justify the war started by Russia in the east of Ukraine and Crimea…We, the Ukrainians, do feel nothing toward Mr. Schröder but sympathy,” the Ambassador stated.
