Ukraine’s Foreign Minister explains appointment of Avakov as Interior Ministry

Foreign Minister of Ukraine Vadym Prystaiko explained that Arsen Avakov kept the position of Interior Minister by his competency showed during the reforming of the police as Prystaiko said at the interview to Die Welt.

Particularly, the journalist asked why President Volodymyr Zelensky, with his orientation for new generation of the politicians, he left in service exactly Interior Minister Avakov, despite the presence of the suspicion in the ties with the oligarchs and far-right organization in the society.

“Volodymyr Zelensky wants not just replace the leadership for replacement. He also appreciates the verified competence showed by Avakov during the successful holding of very difficult reform of the police,” Prystaiko noted.

Besides, he noted that it was not a simple decision for the president.

The minister also added that Zelensky differs from the predecessors by the absence of fear in the selection of strong, professional people with their own stable position for the key positions.

On June 6, the electronic petition with a demand of the urgent resign of Interior Minister of Ukraine Arsen Avakov gained 25,000 of votes, which are necessary to for its consideration.

However, President Zelensky stated that the dismissal of the Interior Minister of Ukraine, according to the Constitution of Ukraine, takes place on the basis of the submission of the prime minister.

At the end of August 2019, the new Cabinet of Ministers headed by Oleksiy Honcharuk was appointed. Arsen Avakov occupied the position of the Interior Minister once again.
