The first honorary consulate of Ukraine opened in Sydney, Australia. According to Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry, the opening ceremony took place on Sunday.

‘Ukraine’s ambassador in Australia Mykola Kulynych, Consul Mykola Dzyhdzhora and members of the local Ukrainian community came to congratulate the new Honorary Consul – Yaroslav Duma’, the message on the ministry’s website says.

Last month, Australian ambassador Melissa O’Rourke stressed that Australia is going to adhere to implementing sanctions against Russia, and that her government supports Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

During their meeting in November, President Petro Poroshenko and Melissa O’Rourke discussed further cooperation within the Joint Investigation Group looking into MH17 tragedy.
