The Delegation of Ukraine to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) refused to visit the annual reception of Secretary General of the Council of Europe Thorbjørn Jagland. Volodymyr Ariev, the Head of Ukraine's Delegation reported this on Facebook.

"Ukrainian delegation refused to come to the annual big reception of Secretary General of the Council of Europe Jagland and returned the invitation. In the terms, when the EU Council saves the paper for the documents due to the financial blackmail of Russia, it is not logical to organize the luxury receptions for hundreds of people," he wrote.

Ariev noted that Ukraine voluntary donated $400, 00 "for the support of the organization in the difficult time". However, the Ukrainian side did not get the response from Jagland on the cost of the annual reception and the feasibility of its holding in the difficult financial conditions.

First Vice Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Iryna Gerashchenko urged the European colleagues to refuse from the visiting of such events.

"EU Council Secretary General T. Jagland always complains about the economic need due to the non-payment of the contribution by the Russians. And amid the economic problems of the organization he tries to return the Russians by all possible ways. At the same time, he organizes this reception for the hundreds of people with champagne for the aperitif," she wrote on Facebook.

As it was reported earlier 20 member countries of the PACE signed the declaration against Russia’s return to the Assembly’s line-up, Volodymyr Ariev, the head of Ukraine’s PACE delegation said.

In October, PACE approved the resolution, which stipulates the necessity to harmonize the rules of membership and representation of member countries in the PACE and the ministerial committee. Due to the approval of this document, PACE now may restore the membership of the Russian delegation. Ukraine offered amendments to the resolution but they were denied.

Russia did not send its delegation to the January session at the PACE due to the fact that the amendments to the regulation 'on the protection of the rights of the national delegations from the discrimination' were not made.
