Ukraine's consul visits Saakashvili in Georgian prison

A Ukrainian consul visited ex-president and former Ukrainian lawmaker Mikheil Saakashvili in the Georgian prison. Oleg Nikolenko, the spokesman of Ukraine's Foreign Ministry reported that as quoted by RBC-Ukraine.

The ex-official does not appeal to the conditions of detention, he has no complaints. "Saakashvili's condition is satisfactory", Nikolenko said, adding that the former president of Georgia stays at the remand centre in the town of Rustavi.

The Ukrainian spokesman claimed that the Foreign Ministry and UKraine's Embassy in Tbilisi continues to provide consulate and legal assistance to Saakashvili as Ukrainian citizens.

"The consul also cooperates with his lawyers", he added.

Earlier, Ukraine's Foreign Ministry claimed it would support Saakashvili in this case since he holds a Ukrainian passport.
 
As is known, on October 1, Georgian ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili reported that he retuened to motherland after eight years of absence. Later that day, Prime Minister of Georgia Irakliy Garibashvili claimed that Saakashvili was detained and taken to the penitentiary facility. The Ukrainian side claimed it was an act of Georgia's "revenge" against Saakashvili.
