Ukraine withdraws from space treaty within CIS

The Cabinet of Ministers adopted the regulation on Ukraine’s withdrawal from the Protocol on approval of Regulation on Interstate council on space. The decision was made during the governmental session.

The explanatory note states that the Protocol on approval of Regulation on Interstate council on space was signed by the members of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) on November 13, 1992, and it determines that the Council is the coordinating body on formation and implementation of the interstate programs on research and use of space.

“The Protocol on approval of Regulation on Interstate council on space is outdated in general, in modern realities it lost the actuality and it does not meet the modern state of the cooperation between countries, and, consequently, it is not used in practice,” the document states.

Earlier, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine submitted to the Verkhovna Rada a bill "On withdrawal from Some International Treaties of Ukraine Concluded within the Commonwealth of Independent States."
