Modernization of locomotives for Ukraine’s state-run railway carrier Ukrzaliznytsia was the central topic for discussion between Ukrainain president Petro Poroshenko and CEO of General Electric Transportation Jamie Miller. The two officials met on Tuesday evening in Kyiv for talks, the presidential press service reported.
‘The Head of State noted the fruitful development of a political dialogue between Ukraine and the United States, which effectively promotes the intensification of bilateral economic cooperation, including the involvement of leading American companies in Ukraine. During the meeting, the parties discussed the prospects of U.S. participation in the modernization of Ukrzaliznytsia PJSC, in particular, the renovation of the fleet of locomotives of the Ukrainian enterprise’, the press service said.
The Ukrainian leader said he hoped that ‘further cooperation with General Electric Transportation would help enhance transport, transit and export potential of our country’. Poroshenko added that strategic cooperation with this company, involving localized production in Ukraine will become a ‘breakthrough’ in the U.S.-Ukraine cooperation in the area of modernizing Ukraine’s transport sector.
