The Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine's parliament passed the decree that urges the OSCE ODIHR to re-assess the illegal voting at Russian presidential election in Crimea. The Organization is also advised to 'develop the standards of reaction to aggressive actions, committed by OSCE member countries on the territory belonging to other OSCE member states'.
228 MPs supported the bill, with 226 necessary to pass.
Rada said it fully supports the activity of the ODIHR, admitting that shaping missions for non-biased supervision and development of the respective recommendations are an important part of the OSCE mandate. It also reminded the ODIHR that the OSCE has never doubted the territorial integrity of Ukraine in its internationally recognized borders - nor has it made any decisions that would recognize the change of Ukraine's borders because of the temporary occupation of Crimea by Russia.
The OSCE ODIHR, OSCE PA and OSCE member states should pay attention that any other interpretation by the observing missions... is dangerous and perilous attempt, as the OSCE tries to put the equality sign between Russia's illegal claims as the aggressor country and OSCE's efforts to restore respect for the basic Helsinki principles,' the MPs stressed.
