Ukraine will welcome the Azov-related package of sanctions against Russia, regardless of their type - sectoral, personal or thematic ones. Serhiy Popyk, the foreign affairs counselor of Ukrainian Prime Minister said this commenting on the EU plans to impose the restrictions.
Talking to 112 Ukraine TV channel, Popyk reiterated there are several options, for that matter.
'These could be personal sanctions; and this could be the right thing to do, since Ukraine identified all those who attacked the three Ukrainian vessels in the Sea of Azov. They also could be sectoral sanctions, and this is what the Prime Minister mentioned during his visit to Brussels. It was about sanctioning the Russian vessels based in the docks of the Sea of Azov, which also enter the European ports - or limit the access for the European vessels to these [Azov] ports, if they come there. It was a matter of research. I guess this is the moment when the first decision on the Azov sanctions package will be done', the official said.
'Our position should lie with the fact that we will welcome, ask and insist on the maximally possible tools of the sanctions regime against Russia: personal, sectoral or thematic ones. It will only help and deter the aggressor,' he concluded.
