The government intends to spend another 19.2 million U.S. dollars on construction of ‘The Wall’, the project aiming to strengthen the endangered section of the Ukrainian border, which neighbors Russia. Petro Tsygykal, the head of the State Border Guard of Ukraine said that at a briefing on Monday.
‘Over the last two years, we received about 23 million dollars, which would be 15 percent from our overall gross requirement; this year’s budget foresees approximately 19 million dollars for our needs,’ he said.
According to Tsygykal, currently, Ukraine built almost 275 kilometers of anti-tank ditches, 84 km of fences, 47 kilometers of drag roads and 180 kilometers of belt roads. By the end of the year, the State Border Guard plans to finish the works on The Wall in Kharkiv region (northeastern Ukraine).
The Wall is the project initiated by the Ukrainian government in 2014. It consists of numerous defensive constructions, surveillance systems and is designed to boost the defense on the state border with Russia in case of further Russian aggression.
