Over the next five years, Ukraine will get the NATO decision on its membership in the Alliance. Petro Poroshenko, the President of Ukraine said this in an interview with one of Ukrainian TV channels.

'We should be meeting the criteria of membership in the EU... and the criteria of membership in the NATO. I'm sure that, by that time, we'll have the action plan on the NATO membership, we'll have the decision on providing Ukraine with the membership', the head of the state said.

He pointed out that Ukraine should implement reforms and reach the criteria that meet the standards of the EU and NATO.

Reforms and tasks that the country should take on this path are quite real, the Ukrainian leader said. According to him, the EU membership will considerably increase the standards of living and democracy in Ukraine.

'NATO membership is safety. It's security on the external borders; it's a political and diplomatic way to restore the sovereignty and territorial integrity of our country. For the average citizen, it also includes safety on the streets', Poroshenko concluded.
