Having approved the law about the extension of special status of the local government in the occupied areas of Donbas for another year, the Ukrainian Parliament showed it can take solid steps to bring peace there. Kurt Volker, the U.S. Department of the State’s Special Envoy tweeted this, sharing his view on the law, approved by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on Friday, October 6.
Earlier today, the Ukrainian parliament extended the special order of local government in Donbas; the condition is, however, that Russia withdraws its troops and vehicles from the occupied areas of Donetsk and Luhansk regions. 229 MPs supported the bill, with 226 necessary to pass.
Besides, the Parliament approved, in principle, the draft law on the re-integration of Donbas; after hot debates in the session hall on Thursday afternoon, MPs agreed to exclude the controversial reference to the Minsk agreements, which was mentioned in the document.
