The Ministry of Health plans to achieve independence of Ukraine in the field of organ transplantation by 2023. Minister of Health Maksym Stepanov announced this during a briefing.

"Today, the Ministry of Health presented a plan for obtaining transplant independence in Ukraine in 2023: providing for citizens in full with such type of medical care as transplantation. According to this document, the priorities of the Ministry of Health are to increase the number of transplants by developing posthumous donation and expanding types of organ transplantation, an increase in the number of bone marrow transplants," the message says.

As of today, 24 medical institutions are participating in a pilot project for the development of a transplantation system. Since the beginning of the year, 69 organ transplantatons and 110 bone marrow transplantations have been performed in Ukraine.

In 2021, the Ministry of Health plans to triple the number of kidney transplantations, increase four times the liver, and eight times the heart transplantations.

For the first time in Ukraine, a pancreas transplant was carried out in the Lviv emergency hospital.
