"This December at the NATO summit in London, we will be able to officially inform NATO member countries that we insist on a MAP and firmly intend to join this defense and military-political union," said the head of state.
According to Poroshenko, a few days ago he had a meeting with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg and he clearly reiterated that NATO’s doors are open for Ukraine and in 2023 it will be able to get the MAP in the Alliance.
Earlier, the President expressed the hope that his successor, Volodymyr Zelensky, will continue the movement of Ukraine to the European Union.
The bill also envisages that the organizing committee should be set for this purpose; it is supposed to approve the action plan to organize and hold the event within two weeks. Andriy Parubiy, the speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament will lead this committee.
The respective bill was upheld by 235 votes of Ukrainian MPs (226 necessary to pass) on April 25. Parubiy signed it on May 2.
