Ukraine should not participate in the Nord Stream 2 certification, member of the Bundestag Left party Klaus Ernst stated on the sidelines of the Potsdam meetings in Moscow, RBC reports.

The country's only task is to pay gas bills, he says.

According to the publication, Washington wants Berlin to influence the certification process of Nord Stream 2 and thus put pressure on Russia. According to the parliamentarian, this issue refers to the agreement concluded earlier between Germany and the United States, according to which Germany must suspend gas supplies from Russia if it uses this type of energy against Ukraine.

"That's pure nonsense. This whole deal is nonsense, it will not be implemented. Why shouldn't we get gas from Russia if Ukraine doesn't pay its bills? Let's move away from the topic of gas. If someone sells balloons, the person who buys them has to pay. But under this agreement, Americans believe that if Ukraine does not pay for balloons, then no one should buy them from this seller. In Germany, if someone doesn't pay their gas bills because they don't have money, their gas gets cut off. This is a normal practice that Russians should also have the right to implement. There are no problems if you pay the bills," Ernst said.

According to Ernst, Poland should also not influence the certification of Nord Stream 2.

"Why should we take it into account? Poland receives duties on gas transit paid by German consumers. If Poland needs money, it needs to turn to the EU, not demand it from German consumers. Finally, if Poland expects solidarity from the EU, then it must adhere to European norms and bring its constitutional reform in line with European law, as well as start accepting refugees. Germany is doing it. They want solidarity, but they do not adhere to it," the politician said.

As it was reported earlier, on October 20 Gas Transmission System Operator of Ukraine has filed an application to the German energy regulator (Bundesnetzagentur) regarding participation in the Nord Stream-2 AG certification procedure.

Meanwhile, Naftogaz of Ukraine has submitted an application for participation in the certification of Nord Stream 2 operator, the companies head stated on October 18.

On October 29 it was reported that Russia supposes a delay in Nord Stream 2 certification process.
