Klimkin thinks that the withdrawal from PACE should be temporary to see what will happen next. He also states that the PACE representatives should not be present at the snap parliamentary elections in Ukraine.
“Who are these people, who will teach us democracy, how to do better? Really, these people, who returned Russia to PACE? If they want, they may come as part of the bilateral organization,” Klimkin said.
He also added that Ukraine along with Ambassador in the Council of Europe Dmytro Kuleba should approve the algorithm of further actions soon. He thinks that Ukraine should not leave PACE as in such case “Russia will do whatever it wants”.
Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe adopted a resolution which changes the sanctions regime and allows Russia to return to work in the organization without limitations to the right to vote.
Due to this fact, the delegations of Ukraine, Poland, Lithuania, Litva Slovakia, Estonia, and Georgia announced demarche.
The delegations of Ukraine and Georgia launched a complaints procedure in PACE over Russia’s return to the organization.
Moreover, Ukrainian delegation stopped its work in the PACE, excluding the sessions concerning the Russian issue.
As we reported, profile committees of the PACE considered the question of restoring all authorities of the Russian delegation in the Assembly. The concluding recommendation passed after the night-time session says that these powers should be returned without any sanctions - not even those that remained after the PACE resolution was passed on June 24.
