The sides negotiated in Berlin; the talks lasted for more than seven hours

Ukraine and the Russian Federation have made a preliminary deal on the gas transit. European Commission Vice President Maros Šefčovič reported this after the negotiations in Berlin were over. 

"During the more than seven hours-long talks on the gas transit, Ukraine and Russia have reached a principal agreement on the new contract on the transit of the Russian gas over the territory of Ukraine", reads the message at Hromadske website.

No further details of the deal are revealed so far.

On December 19, Berlin hosted the trilateral meeting, where Ukraine, Russia and the EU discussed the transit of Russian gas to Europe across Ukraine. The sides discussed the agreement on the longevity, volumes and tariffs of the further gas contract that is supposed to be valid until December 31, 2020.
