In an interview with France 24, President Petro Poroshenko has stressed that Ukraine is ready for a meeting in the Normandy format at the level of political advisers to de-escalate the situation. It is reported by the press service of the head of state.
"This proposal was previously agreed with me during a telephone conversation with the German Chancellor, and we will certainly take part in the meeting of Normandy format at the level of political advisers, at which we to raise an urgent question - the requirement for the Russian Federation to return our military ships and open the Kerch Strait," said the head of state.
The head of the Ukrainian state stressed that the meeting itself is not a positive result in this matter.
“The meeting is just a tool, not a result. We demand to stop violating international law because everything that happened is a gross violation of international law and might have further consequences,” Poroshenko noted.
The president also stressed that the Russian Federation should withdraw its troops from the Ukrainian-Russian border, and remove a large number of warships from the Sea of Azov.
Earlier President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko considered it necessary to increase the naval presence of Germany and the allies in the Black Sea. “We need an increased naval presence of Germany and allies in the Black Sea as a deterrent for Russia,” Poroshenko said.
In addition, he stressed that Russia's aggressive actions are unacceptable and the international community should increase pressure on Russia.
“We need a strong, unified, unequivocal response to Russia's aggressive behavior. We must stop Nord Stream 2. We must now think about the new sanctions,” Petro Poroshenko noted.
