According to the official, Ukraine has about 65 cities in which the mine is the only enterprise where people can work. In such cities, as a rule, for each family, there is one person who works at such a mine and is the breadwinner.
“We need to understand how we need to protect these people, to enable these regions to transform so that jobs would remain there. We even have agreements with the German side today. There was a call from the Prime Minister to German Chancellor Angela Merkel. They discussed this issue. And I had negotiations with the German ambassador to Ukraine regarding assistance in conducting comprehensive work as part of a pilot project with German experience in closing the mines of a single-industry town, which we will define along with them according to certain criteria," said Olga Buslavets.
She noted that this project will be implemented to address social and environmental issues, as well as to provide people with jobs. The official also said that it would be a positive experience, which will then be implemented in other cities.
