The Ukrainian government plans to allow dual citizenship with the EU member countries. Dmytro Kuleba, the Foreign Minister of Ukraine said so during the briefing.

The Minister claimed he supports the idea of legalization of dual citizenship with friendly countries and EU member countries. On the other hand, the Ministry refused from the idea to act the same in regard to the Russian Federation.

"The politics that we're going to implement is based on two elements. We plan on allowing dual citizenship with the EU member countries, and the countries that act friendly towards us, and those that do not pose any threat to us; the list of these countries will be calibrated, and it will depend on certain criteria", Kuleba said.

He also added that after the introduction of dual citizenship, Ukraine will be able to hold the area of its presence in the world as one single entity; thus, the Ukrainian citizens who choose to depart to the EU for permanent residence can save and hold their Ukrainian passports, too.

There is an important restriction, though: such people cannot be employed as government officials. "There will be a different policy with a number of limitations to avoid abuses", Kuleba concluded.
