Kyiv has no intention to change its gas transit strategy, and it will insist that the launch of Nord Stream 2 pipeline is unacceptable. Yuriy Vitrenko, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Naftogaz-Ukraine company. Radio Liberty cited him as saying.
According to the official, this matter will most likely be discussed during the meeting of Ukrainian and American presidents on August 31.
"In our opinion, this geopolitical project must be stopped, in particular thanks to the U.S. sanctions. We keep working with U.S. parliamentarians, congressmen and senators. We persuade them that the operator of this project, Nordstream AG must face efficient sanctions so that the gas does not bypass Ukraine, ending up in Europe", Vitrenko said.
The official added that the operator should not get the certificate for working in Europe, and Ukraine does not negotiate on compensation. Kyiv plans to perform a "green transition" within 15 years, but for that to happen, one needs dozens of billions of dollars, which the country receives from gas transit.
