A large group of countries expects Ukraine to take steps after which the country will be able to become a NATO member. This was stated by the newly appointed US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo after the meeting of the foreign ministers of the member countries of the Alliance, reports European Truth.
"A large group (of countries) hopes that the Ukrainians will begin to carry out actions after which they can be invited to join NATO," Pompeo said.
He added that Ukraine needs to do a lot of work, "go a long way to achieve this."
As you know, President Petro Poroshenko insists that the North Atlantic alliance should provide Ukraine with the Action Plan on NATO membership. Earlier it was reported that NATO considered the application of Ukraine for membership in the Alliance. The later information appeared that the NATO committee was ready to support Kyiv with weapons.
We recall, on April 27 during a meeting of foreign ministers of the member states, the Ukrainian side planned to hold a meeting of the Ukraine-NATO Commission during the meeting. All the allies, as well as the International Secretariat of the Alliance, supported such an initiative, but Hungary has vetoed it.
