Ukraine risks losing up to two billion US dollars per year due to the launch of Nord Stream 2. Yuriy Vitrenko, the CEO of Naftogaz-Ukraine company reported that in his interview with Reuters.

According to the official, that sum makes approximately 1.5 percent of the country's GDP.

Vitrenko claims that the Nord Stream 2 does not meet the European legal gramework; he expressed hope that the pipeline will not be launched.

"We believe it should not be certified until it meets the European law", Vitrenko said.

The Ukrainian side expects that the US Congress will impose new sanctions against the Nord Stream 2 AG company. "On the other side of the [Atlantic] ocean, one way or the other, they realize that Russia has been using gas as a weapon, it's playing against the rules, and that the Nord Stream 2, in fact, threatens the entire continent and global security", Vitrenko concluded.
