Ukraine marks anniversary of 1991 referendum on independence

President Petro Poroshenko congratulated fellow Ukrainians on the 26th anniversary of the 1991 referendum, which confirmed the will of the Ukrainian nation to live in the independent state.

‘The referendum that took place on December 1, 1991, became the turning point in the making of the modern Ukrainian state. It is after the undisputed result of the referendum that all international actors recognized the independent Ukraine. Today, our common duty is to protect this achievement. And we will surely prevail!’ Poroshenko posted on Facebook.

Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman joined the President’s cheers, calling the Day of the Referendum an outstanding date in the country’s history.
