The representatives of Ukraine and Lithuania with the presence of Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaite signed the number of the documents on the bilateral cooperation as the press service of Poroshenko reported.
Particularly, the sides signed the protocol of the 10th session of the Council of the Presidents.
'The document confirms the common attitude towards the development of the strategic inter-state relations between the countries. The aggression of Russia against Ukraine is condemned in the protocol and the support of the unity, sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine is supported as well as the importance of the further bilateral efforts on the support of Ukraine and fight against Russian aggression are confirmed', the message said.
The Protocol welcomes the full entry into force of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU on September 1, 2017, the positive results of the temporary implementation of the free trade area, the entry into force of the visa-free regime for Ukrainian citizens, the results of the fifth Eastern Partnership Summit, as well as confirms the importance of bilateral cooperation in the field of defense and security, energy, transport and logistics, education, science and culture, as well as youth policy and youth exchange.
A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine and the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Lithuania on strategic cooperation in the field of energy.
The cooperation will take place in the experience exchange in the development of the gas markets, the decommissioning and dismantling of nuclear power plants, in the sphere of renewable energy sources, including clean energy projects using solar energy, biomass.
The sides will also cooperate in energy efficiency and energy saving technologies; in the issues of the creation of the electricity market and the system of transmission of synchronous connection with continental Europe, etc. through institutional cooperation within the functioning of the relevant Working Group.
Moreover, they signed the Agreement on Cooperation between the State Migration Service of Ukraine and the Migration Department of the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Lithuania. The document aims to create an effective platform for cooperation in the field of migration and asylum.
Also, Poroshenko and Grybauskaite claimed that they agreed on the necessity to sign an agreement on the social protection of the Ukrainians that work in Lithuania.
At the same time, Poroshenko claimed that the representatives of both countries got the order to prepare the document for the signing at the next session of the Presidents' Council.
Earlier Dalia Grybauskaite claimed that Ukraine should provide the independence of the law enforcement service from the political influence.
