All Member States of the Security Council should implement its resolution for the sanctions against the DPRK to be effective, as Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the UN Volodymyr Yelchenko said after the successful vote on the new sanctions against North Korea, according to the website of Ukraine’s mission to the UN.
“I wish to reiterate the key importance of full and comprehensive implementation of all Council’s resolutions related to DPRK by all Member States. Joint actions are needed to change Pyongyang’s reckless behavior,” Mr Yelchenko said.
He emphasized that “consolidated and uncompromised stance at the global level is crucial to exclude the risk of further provocations and to preserve nuclear non-proliferation regime as a whole.”
According to Mr Yelchenko, the resolution shows that the Council remains united and decisive in its response to the growing nuclear threat.
At the same time, it shows the Council’s openness to dialogue on a peaceful and diplomatic solution to the situation in the region, and its intention to avoid affecting the North Korean population.
