Ukraine does not have enough military force to reintegrate the occupied territories of Donbas and annexed Crimea. Kurt Volker, the former special representative of US Department of the State for Ukraine's affairs said so in an interview with Krym.Realii outlet.
"I don't believe Ukraine has military potential for victory over Russia. We're saying that Russian troops are stationed in Donbas - not a group of separatists, but forces trained and equipped by Russia, and the Russian intelligence. Russia gives them all sorts of equipment and all resources necessary for combat activities. So I don't believe Ukraine can or should at least try beating Russia by means of force", he said.
The ex-official believes that political pressure on Russia would be far more appropriate. "It's a matter of providing the other kind of pressure upon Russia: to see to it that Russia decided to end the war under pressure of sanctions and political pressure. But currently, Russia is in a different situation", he said.
Earlier, Serhiy Harmash, member of the Ukrainian delegation in the Trilateral Contact Group for settlement of Donbas conflict claimed that Ukraine has an opportunity to regain control over Donbas within the next decade.
