At the moment both Ukraine and Georgia are not read to join NATO. However, Georgia has greater progress. The US Special Envoy to Ukraine Kurt Volker claimed this at the interview to Kviris Palitra as Georgia Online reported.

'Today Georgia is not ready to become a member of NATO. Georgia in comparison with Ukraine has greater progress. I mean the transparency, contribution that Georgia brought in the world security, defense reform, fight against corruption and so on. But I do not think that somebody from NATO will say about the readiness to accept Georgia as NATO member. Georgia should have successful, transparent and safe democracy as in other NATO countries and it should be ready to be at the forefront when NATO will make a decision on the further extension. I will remind an example of the Baltic's countries – it was claimed that they cannot join NATO in 1999 but they were invited to NATO in 2002. There should be a consensus of all countries-members of NATO to accept someone in the organization. We cannot neglect the fact that Russia is a big neighbor', Kurt Volker said.
