Ukrainian Health Minister Maksym Stepanov has recently held a telephone conversation with his American counterpart Alex Azar. The parties discussed Ukraine's access to the Covid-19 vaccine, the press service of the Ministry of Health reports.
During the conversation, Azar assured that the United States would help with strengthening communication between Ukraine’s Health Ministry and vaccine companies (Moderna, Johnson & Johnson, Pfizer, and Novavax) in order to speed up the obtaining of the vaccine.
In addition, the American side noted the support of Ukraine and its readiness to strengthen cooperation on programs that are set to combat such infectious diseases as measles, tuberculosis, etc.
As we reported earlier, according to Head of Immunorehabilitation Lab of Mechnikov Institute of Microbiology and Immunology Andriy Volyansky, about 40% of Ukraine's population will have gotten through coronavirus until May 2021.
“In fact, it is unknown when we will get it (the vaccine against Covid-19, - 112.international) and its amount; how many people will be vaccinated for free. In my opinion, this discussion is premature and Ukraine will survive the first wave before the vaccine development. Currently, we need to think about the fact that about 40% of the population will be infected until May and we might predict about 40,000 lethal cases. Meanwhile, we have about 10,000 as of today,” he said.
