The Constitutional Committee of Ukraine considers amendments to the basic law of Ukraine – the ones concerning the Autonomous Republic of Crimea. Refat Chubarov, the Head of the Mejlis of Crimean Tatars, reported that on Thursday. According to him, a work group is currently developing the respective draft law.
The activists offer to introduce Crimean Tatar language as the second official language used in the peninsula. They also insist that Crimean Tatar should have guarantees of their representation, membership and action in the local authorities (at least 30 percent of representatives should be Crimean Tatars).
The Constitutional Committee believes such changes should help bring Crimea back to Ukraine.
