Ukraine needs to establish friendly relations with People's Republic of China. Vadym Rabinovych, the co-head of Opposition Platform - For Life party expressed such view during the summit of China's Communist Party and other political parties, which took place as a video call on July 6.
"The basis of our party is neutrality and trade with all our partners. The key thing for Ukrainians is to buy things as cheap as possible and sell them as expensive as possible. But if we close our shipyards and purchase some vessels that are out of commission - then it's bad. I guess we will establish connections with China - normal, friendly ones. All neighboring countries quarrelled with Ukraine. Today, the head of National Security and Defense Council said that Ukraine's major friend is Great Britain. Maybe it's a good friend, but it's too far. And how do we live with our neighbors, then?", the MP said.
Earlier, China forced Ukraine to withdraw its support for a call for more scrutiny of human rights in China's western Xinjiang region. It threatened to withhold Chinese-made Covid-19 vaccines destined for Ukraine unless it did so.
Ukraine briefly joined a statement by over 40 countries, presented by Canada at the Human Rights Council in Geneva on Tuesday, urging China to allow immediate access for independent observers to Xinjiang. Some human rights groups have alleged Chinese mistreatment of Muslim Uyghurs and others in the region.
