The government of Ukraine cannot supply water to Crimea annexed by Russia until its de-occupation and return to Ukraine as Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmygal reported on Facebook after talk show Pravo na vladu.
“The format of the talk show is not the best to discuss difficult issues. For example, the issue of water supply to Crimea. Once more I would like to underline that the government does not forget about the Ukrainians who live in the territory of temporarily occupied Ukrainian Crimea. We want them to feel that we take care of them. really, it is impossible to split water, which will go to people and which will go the military bases due to the technical reasons,” the PM wrote.
Shmygal noted that ‘this thesis was lost in the noise of the studio’.
“The position remains unchanged: we would like to supply water to our citizens but we cannot and we have no technical possibility to do it before the de-occupation of the peninsula and its return to Ukraine,” Shmygal underlined.
During the talk show Denys Shmygal stated that Ukraine should supply water to Crimea. Otherwise, the humanitarian catastrophe will take place on the peninsula.
Earlier, Head of Servant of the People party Davyd Arakhamia would agree on the water supply to annexed Crimea in the exchange for cessions by Russia’s President Vladimir Putin on Donbas issue.
Leader of Crimean Tatar Mejlis Refat Chubarov stated that the supply of water to occupied Crimea means the surrender of half of million of Crimean Tatars to Russia.
Member of the budget committee of the Verkhovna Rada, MP of Servant of the People Party Yuriy Aristov stated that Ukraine considers the possibility of water supply to annexed Crimea.
Later permanent representative of Ukraine's President in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea Anton Korinevych underlined that information about the possible restoration of water supplies to the annexed Crimea is a fake.
