Ukraine calls to increase pressure on Russia because of “elections” in Crimea

Ukraine's MFA emphasized that the results of the “elections” in Crimea will be legally null and void and will not be recognized either by Ukraine or the international community

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine calls on international partners to give a principled assessment of Russia's illegal actions to organize and conduct the so-called "local elections" in occupied Crimea and to increase pressure on it. The corresponding statement was published on the MFA website.

"New violations of international law by the Russian Federation indicate the need not only to continue but also to strengthen international political and economic pressure on the Russian Federation in order to restore the territorial integrity of Ukraine, including in the form of restrictive measures related to the occupation of Crimea," the statement said.

The Foreign Ministry emphasized that the results of the "elections" on the peninsula will be legally null and void and neither Ukraine nor the international community, and all those involved in their "will be held accountable in accordance with Ukrainian legislation."

"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine calls on international partners to give a principled assessment of Russia's illegal actions in organizing and conducting so-called "local elections" in the temporarily occupied Crimea, to prevent contacts at the national and regional levels with the illegal institutions of the Russian occupation administration and its representatives, as well as to strengthen efforts with the purpose of ending the occupation of Crimea," the statement emphasizes.
