Ukraine penalized Russia-initiated draft law of UN General Assembly on fighting coronavirus. If the Assembly passed it, Russia could have disposed of international sanctions. Ukraine's Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba posted this on Facebook.
"Only Ukraine was the first among UN member countries to break the silence procedure regarding Russia-initiated draft resolution of UN General Assembly "Declaration on solidarity of United Nations before the challenges created by coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19)". Thus, the silence procedure is broken. The Russian resolution will not be passed. We will keep blocking Russia's efforts to destroy the sanction regime", he wrote.
The Minister explained that there are many right things in the text, "hidden behind this noble naming", and a manipulation that can have strategic destructive consequences for the system of international security - the launch of process of canceling international sanctions against Russia.
"Nothing stands in the way of cooperation of states for combating coronavirus and overcoming its aftermaths. In this background, the attempts to abuse humanitarian goals in order to place a landmine under international sanctions (...) including sanctions for the Russian aggression against Ukraine are a definite manipulation by Russia", Kuleba concluded.
