Ukraine counts to conclude a new contract with Russian Gazprom on the transit of 45 billion cubic meters of gas during 10-15 years after 2024 as 112.ua.tv reported citing Gas Transmission System Operator of Ukraine.
“Together with the President’s Office, the Foreign Ministry, the Cabinet of Ministers, parliament and public figures, we do everything possible to keep the prospects (of transit through Ukrainian gas transmission system after 2024). The issue is not only about the economic component of the issue but about the real guarantees of the national security of Ukraine. Such guarantee, obviously, is the prolongation of the annual contract (with Gazprom) for 10-15 years with an annual volume of at least 45 billion cubic meters. The prospects depend on the diplomatic steps of Ukraine, observation by other countries of the energy solidarity (diversification of the sources and ways of gas supply), from demonopolization of the market, particularly, and up to the decisions of the international partners,” the message says.
Earlier, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Naftogaz-Ukraine company Yuriy Vitrenko stated that Ukraine has no intention to change its gas transit strategy, and it will insist that the launch of Nord Stream 2 pipeline is unacceptable.
Besides, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that Russia is ready to continue transporting gas through Ukraine after 2024. However, the Russian authorities need to understand how long the transit will be extended and in what volumes.
The end of the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline in the waters of Germany by Fortuna pipe-laying ship is planned for September 12. Besides, Russian company Gazprom has stated that the first line of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline is almost ready for launch.
Gazprom Head Alexei Miller stated that the first supplies on the Nord Stream 2 can be held in the heating season of 2021.
