UK, Canada impose sanctions against Lukashenko, his son, several Belarusian officials

Canada and the United Kingdom imposed sanctions against Aleksander Lukashenko, his son Viktor and a number of Belarusian officials. Press office of the British government reported that.

The new restrictions include travel bans and freezing of assets in respective countries.

Apart from Lukashenko and his son, sanctions concern Igor Sergeenko, Chief of Staff to the President of Belarus; Yuri Karayev, Minister of Internal Affairs, as well as his deputies Aleksandr Barsukov and Yuriy Nazarenko; Khazalbek Atabekov, Deputy Commander of Internal Troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Dmitriy Balaba, the commander of Minsk riot police unit.

Ottawa deployed sanctions against even broader circle of individuals. Apart from the mentioned officials, Canadian sanctions concern Lidiya Yermoshina, the leader of Central Election Committee of Belarus, her deputy Vadim Ipatov, secretary of Central Election Committee of Belarus Elena Dmukhailo and Chief of Main Department of Internal Affairs of Minsk Municipal Executive Committee Ivan Kubrakov.
