Michel Platini, the former UEFA President has been released from custody. AFP reported this on June 19.

A day before, he was arrested within the corruption case on choosing the country that would host FIFA World Cup 2022.

The hearings into the case lasted for several hours; the official denied knowledge of any facts and the violations that occurred.

In May, 2015 an investigation on elections kicked off in Switzerland and the U.S. In November 2017 former head of the Argentinian sports marketing company Torneos y Competencias Alexandro Bursako was testifying in the federal court of New York. He said that a couple of FIFA managers got briberies in support of the Qatari request.

According to the investigation of the British newspaper The Sunday Times, in 2010 Qatar ordered publications in the press which defamed the applications of Australia, the U.S., South Korea and Japan. Besides, Qatar had allegedly hiring former officers of the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency and New York branch office of a famous American company Brown Lloyd Jones to win the competition.

Despite the evidence of corruption, the Swiss and American law enforcers recognized that FIFA has a right to reconsider the results of the competition.

Due to climatic conditions, the World Cup of 2022 will be held not in summer, but in November-December.

Michel Platini was elected the President of UEFA in 2007. In 2015, FIFA arbitration chamber on etiquette has suspended an org-man for eight times. In May 2016, this term was reduced to four years.
