Two leaders of paramilitary unit UNA ("Ukrainian People's (National) Army") have been sentenced by the court; the organization was guided and instructed from beyond the border. This is mentioned on the official website of Ukraine's Security Service (SBU), the state security service.
According to the message, the service operatives found out that members of the union planned and prepared for capturing administrative buildings of governmental authorities, as well as assassination attempts on the lives of statesmen during this year's election campaign in Ukraine. They also looked into an option to conduct a subversive act on critical infrastructure objects. The malefactors planned such actions all over Ukraine.
The source reports that during investigation actions in January-March 2019, the law enforcers searched the members of the illegal unit. They seized two anti-tank grenade launchers, 1.5 kg of explosives, two homemade explosive devices, seven automatic and semi-automatic rifles, nine pistols and revolvers of various systems, over 3,000 rounds for small arms. The defendants also stored communication and surveillance devices, as well as tactical equipment. The seized pieces became evidence in the criminal case.
Both defendants pleaded guilty and cooperated with the investigation. The court pronounced a suspended sentence.
