Two citizens of Lithuania convicted of espionage in favor of Russia

In Lithuania, the Klaipeda District Court has sentenced two citizens of the country to prison for espionage in favor of Russia. They were sentenced to 4 years and 1.5 years in prison, respectively. It is reported by LRT.

Both of them were accused of collaborating with the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation and performing its tasks of gathering information in Lithuania.

It is noted that the court sentenced the head of the Baltic Youth Association "Juvenius" and the organizer of the "Immortal Regiment" in Klaipeda, Alexei Greichus, to 4 years in prison. He, as noted in the verdict, was recruited by the Federal Security Service (FSB) of Russia. For four years, he ran events funded by Russian intelligence and collected data on invited guests. Alexei Greichus pleaded not guilty and is going to appeal the verdict.

Another Lithuanian citizen, Mindaugas Tunikaitis, was sentenced to 1.5 years in the same case. He admitted his guilt.

The convicts are not related to each other. However, their cases were combined into one proceedings due to the fact that they were recruited and supervised by the same FSB officer. It was not possible to detain the Russian.

Earlier in Kharkiv, the Security Service of Ukraine detained spies who had stolen materials of secret military developments for the foreign side.
