20 member countries of the PACE signed the declaration against Russia’s return to the Assembly’s line-up. Volodymyr Ariev, the head of Ukraine’s PACE delegation posted that on Facebook.

‘PACE delegates who represent 19 member countries of the Council of Europe have signed the declaration dubbed ‘Protecting the Council of Europe’s values and authority’. The document focuses on the attempts to return Russia to the Assembly – without Russia abiding by PACE resolutions. The signatories regret the fact that certain forces in the Council of Europe are trying to undermine the Assembly’s and the Council’s authority,’ he said.

In October, PACE approved the resolution, which stipulates the necessity to harmonize the rules of membership and representation of member countries in the PACE and the ministerial committee. Due to the approval of this document, PACE now may restore the membership of the Russian delegation. Ukraine offered amendments to the resolution but they were denied.
