The Foreign Ministry of Turkey views the detention of Crimean Tatars in the Russian-occupied Crimea as another example of a systematic campaign of oppression and intimidation by the Russian occupation authorities. This was reported by Ukrinform with reference to the ministry’s statement of August 31.
"We are anxiously watching the raids on homes of Crimean Tatars and arrests that were conducted in Crimea this morning. This is a new example of a systematic campaign of oppression and intimidation of Crimean Tatars that has been carried out since the illegal annexation of Crimea in 2014," reads the message.
Ankara emphasizes its intention to continue supporting Crimean Tatars who have defended their rights and interests by peaceful and democratic means.
In this regard, the Ambassador of Ukraine to Turkey Andrii Sybiha thanked the country for its firm position on the non-recognition of Crimea's occupation and protection of Crimean Tatars' rights.
As we reported earlier, in Nyzhnohirsky and Sovietsky areas and Sudak city of annexed Crimea, the Russian law enforcers hold searches at the houses of the Crimean Tatars.
Particularly, the search took place at the house of Crimean Solidarity journalist, correspondent of Hrani.ru Aider Kadyrov. He was taken to the FSB of Simferopol.
