Turkey is in favor of expanding NATO, and the Alliance should provide Membership Action Plans to aspirant countries. This was stated by the head of the republic’s foreign affairs department Mevlut Cavusoglu in an interview with Georgian journalists on the sidelines of the 56th Munich Security Conference, Rustavi 2 reports.
“Turkey stands for the expansion of the North Atlantic Alliance. NATO has aspirant countries and they must be provided with an Membership Action Plan. This is our Turkish position,” the message says.
It was reported that Zelensky on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference held a meeting with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, during which the issue of granting the Ukraine the status of a partner with advanced capabilities was raised.
Defense Minister Andriy Zahorodniuk expects that in October 2020 Ukraine will join the NATO Enhanced Opportunity Plan as TSN reported.
“The accession of Ukraine to the NATO Enhanced Opportunity Plan is expected in October. It will be a great step for us. They also understand it and due to these reasons support it. There, in EOP, are a number of benefits for us,” the minister underlined.
Zahorodniuk concluded on Facebook that Ukraine reached sufficient progress in the implementation of NATO standards and it is quite consistent with the military criteria necessary for accession to the Enhanced Opportunity Plan.
