Despite the ceasefire agreement between Turkey and the USA shellings took place in the border battlefield city of Ras al Ain in Northeast Syria, as Reuters informs.

"Reuters journalists at the border heard machine-gun fire and shelling and saw smoke rising from the Syrian border battlefield city of Ras al Ain early on Friday, although the sounds of fighting later subsided by mid-morning," the message reads.

The truce announced by U.S. Vice President Mike Pence after negotiations in Ankara with Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan sets a five-day pause to give Kurdish fighters an opportunity to go out of the area, which is under control of Turkey's government.

As we reported earlier, Syrian Democratic Forces headed by Kurdish warlords have agreed to the five days-long ceasefire with Turkey in the border area between these countries.

"Kobani said the agreement is “just the beginning” and will not be able to achieve the goals of Turkey, which launched an incursion into northern Syria last week", Reuters reported.
