U.S. President Donald Trump said on Monday the United States is "very protective" of the Baltics in the face of a Russian naval exercise with China in the Baltic Sea and said the United States and its allies would be able to handle any threat. This was reported by Reuters.
Russian-Chinese exercise in the Baltic Sea rattled nearby nations, fearful of an invasion from Moscow after Putin's annexation of Crimea in Ukraine.
"We are very protective of that region," Trump said at a joint news conference with visiting Finland President Sauli Niinisto. "That's all I can say. We are very, very protective. We have great friends there."
As it was reported earlier Deputy Defense Minister of Poland Michal Dworczyk said that Russian Federation can leave part of its troops and equipment in Belarus after the end of West-2017 military exercises.
According to him, officially 13,000 soldiers will be involved in the Russia-Belarus West-2017 drills. “But we know that, in fact, the drills will involve much greater territory, number of servicemen and military equipment,” he stressed.
Some NATO countries have suggested that there will be about 100,000 people in the drills.
