William Taylor, the U.S. Charge d'Affaires in Ukraine said that the White House upholds the initiative of Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky who offered to exchange ten Ukrainians for ten Russian occupants in Donbas; this, according to Zelensky, would help launch the de-escalation process in Donbas combat area. Taylor told that to the press in Kyiv as quoted by UNN news agency.
'If President Trump meets with President Putin in Japan, it will be a good ground for Trump to bring up the issue of 24 sailors held by Russia. This topic, as far as we know, is also highly-discussed one between President Zelensky and President Putin. There are offers to exchange five Ukrainians on five Russians or ten Ukrainians on ten Russians. Russians have a different point of view. But we support such step very much', he said.
Donald Trump has repeatedly stated his plans to meet with Vladimir Putin during G20 summit in Osaka on June 28-29.
